BOEN BIO TEMPLE

Boen Bio is one of the Confucian temples in Indonesia and considered as the largest in South East Asia. In the past, the Dutch called it "The Church of Confucius". The temple, built in 1883 and formerly named Boen Thjiang Soe, was located in the District of Kapasan Dalam. With regard to its Majestic figure, it is a pity if such a temple was located inside the slum part of the district. The Confucian philosopher, K'ang Yu Wei,once visited the temple and proposed to relocate the building onto the big street, Kapasan 131, Surabaya. On September 4, 1906, the reconstruction began and finished on July 6, 1907. Thus, The present temple is just as the temple, when it was rebuilt in 1907.
The uniqueness of the temple is the absence of Kimsin (the statues), but it has got Sinci (spirit tablets),instead. Precisely on the top of the highest altar, there lies a red lamp which symbolizes T'ien (The Almighty God). Just below the altar, there are 9 Sincis, and each of them was put inside a Sinci Kham (the tablet cabinet): the one on the very top and at the far back side is the tablet of Prophet Confucius; the ones in the middle and a little bit lower are the tablets of Gan Yan, Cingcu, Cusu, and Mencius; the others, which are on the lowest front, are the Sincis of the prophet's 72 distinguished diciples (from his 3000 diciples).
The exterior and the interior of the temple is full of symbols and meanings, derived from the teaching of Confucius, compiled in the Four Books and The Five Classics. Historically, Boen Bio confirms the existence and acceptance of Confucianism in the plural society of Indonesia in a different era.
Boen Bio has been visited by national and worldwide visitors, among others, there were ambassadors of foreign countries, historians, architects, experts on religion, social scientists, and university students. To celebrate Confucius' birhtday, the local people in Kapasan District holds a ceremony and a puppet-show for the whole night. On King Hoo Ping worshipping, thousands packages of food material aaare distributed annually for the poor to share the joy.

JEMBATAN MERAH ( RED BRIDGE )

Translated as  Red Bridge in whose sourrounding is one the most savage fightings ever in Java's. The battle of Surabaya began on 10 November 1945, less than three months after the Proclamation of Independence had been read in Jakarta and it was right here that brigadir general Mallaby was killed. Further down the Red Bridge is the China Town are surrounding packed with buildings of typical Chinese constructure. It is the still the most crowded business and trade centre.

JOKO DOLOG STATUE

The statue of Joko Dolog can be founded in Apsari park, close to Grahadi, the Governor of East Java's official residence in Surabaya. According to legend, the image was commissioned by King Kertanagara in A.D. 1289 to neutralize the effect of a curse which was preventing him from uniting the country's separate kingdoms. The statue thus stands as a symbol of Indonesian unity.

JOLOTUNDO

It is located in Prigen, Two sites on Mt. Penanggungan which can be visited quite easily are the bathing places of Jolotundo and Belahan, located on the western and eastern sides of the mountain respectively. Both date from an earlier historical period than the majority of Penanggungan's temples and are connected with the period of Kediri and specifically King Airlangga, who ruled over Java and Bali early in the 11th century.
Belahan, in fact, is believed to be the burial place of the King himself. Two beautiful life size stones images of the goddesses Sri and Laksmi can be seen at the bathing pool. The famous portrait of 'Airlangga as Vishnu', which used to stand between the two goddesses, was taken from the site some years ago and can now be seen in the museum at Trowulan.
While Candi Belahan faces east and is approached from Pandaan, Jolotundo is located on the other side of the mountain. A narrow road leading north to Ngoro descends from Trawas and winds through the forest. At Jolotundo it is possible to arrange a hike to the mountain's summit, or hire a guide to visit some of the other temple sites which can only be reached on foot.

JALESVEVA JAYAMAHE SURABAYA

The Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument describes a figure of a middle rank Indonesian National Army- Navy officer wearing a complete uniform (Lenue PDU-1) looking to the direction of the sea, representing a next generation full with certainty and determination, ready to run through the waves and the storm, to move towards the main goal, that is the National Cause of Indonesian people. This  monument also describes the "tetenger"(Characteristic) of the passing on of the spirit of dedication from the previous generations who have just accomplished their duties to the next generations who have to carry on the work. This monument which is constructed on the west end of Port Madura, will also be used as a lighthouse tower for the ships which sail along the place. 30,8 meters high statue is standing on top of the 26,1 meters high building. On some part of the building, there is a diorama of heroic history of the navy since the era of physical pre-revolution up until the 90’s. This building is also functioning as an :Executive Metting Room. Acting as the creative sculptors and architects are Drs Nyoman Nuarta and his co-workers who are joined in The Nyoman Nuarta Group.
The process of construction had started since 1990 and was planned to be made official on Desember 1996, which is exactly the commemoration of The Indonesian Republic Navy Day on Desember 5, 1996. The construction of this monument costs a great deal and the fund was obtained from the TNI Navy‘s self-efforts and the help from the community such as the sponsorship from the companies as well as other forms of aids.
Inspiring the construction of the Jalesveva Jayamahe monument is the idea that however advanced a country is, it should always base itself on its history. In other words, " A Great Country is a country which can appreciate the feats of its heroes."
From the whole lot of heroes and great people who had given contribution in pioneering, enforcing and filling of the Independence of Indonesian people, including the heroes who dedicated themselves in the navy, they had sacrifice a lot , even their lives, only few of them whom we know. Their names have been memorialized as the names of The Indonesian Republic battleships or important buildings.
Besides as a symbol of appreciation and comemmoration from the next generations who are still alive, it is also expected that it could give an encouragement to their struggle to reach the Marine’s noble cause, that is : Glory for the Marines in the forum of the prosperous and just Indonesian Republic.
However, the next generations still feel insufficient with this, and even feel inadequate in giving efforts to repay the noble dedication of the heroes, and they are sure that there is no appropriate amount of appreciation compared to the sacrifice that the heroes made, even though they never had expected any kind of rewards for it. They only hope that the spirit of their struggle woud be carried on to fill the independence.
In the year 1990, after the proclamation of Indonesian Independence in 1945, our beloved country celebrates its 45th anniversary . The spirit of dedication is completely passed on to the generations who fill and continue the development of the country. That is why the year 1990 can be considered as an important turning point in the history of Indonesia.
Based on the same cause, in that special year, the next generation of TNI Navy along with the people, wanted to perform something special, that is the constructing of a Monument and the first stone was set on Desember 5, 1990.
By the construction of this monument, the young generations are trying to record the heroic steps of the pioneers and the seniors of The TNI Navy in their dedication in pioneering, enforcing, and filling the Indonesian Independence as Marines and it is also expected that it can stir up the spirit of the present generation and the next in, the era of reconstruction.
Without underestimating the historical events in Sibolga, Tegal, Pasuruan Bali or wherever in Indonesia, the History of Ujung as a part of Surabaya district is unseparable from the History of TNI Navy , especially the struggle in seizing Kaigun SE 21/24 Butai on October 3, 1945, signified by the pledge of the marines from "Penataran Angkatan Laut" (PAL) that is: " I am willing and will voluntarily sacrifice my possessions, body and soul for the sake of the Nation"
On the performance of the next historical events of TNI Navy, Ujung has a very important role that is as the Home Base of the biggest TNI Navy battleship up until now. So, it is appropriate if most people named Surabaya as the Sailor City ar The Maritime City and that is why it is suitable that the Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument was built in Ujung Surabaya.
Besides that, it is also expected that the construction of this monument can add the colorful of Ujung Surabaya which mean adding the beauty of Surabaya as the Hero City and Indamardi City (Industri=Industry, Perdagangan=Trade, Maritim=Maritime, and Pendidikan=Education)

MONUMEN KAPAL SELAM / SUB MARINE MONUMET

It is located in the bank of Kalimas River, on the east corner of Surabaya Plaza. The brief history of this Sub Marine was started a long time ago. The ship was called KRI Pasopati with the body number of 410. It was one of the elements of Indonesian Sub Marine Army Unit on the east region. This Sub Marine once belonged to the Russian Whisky Class and it was received by the Indonesian Government on December 15, 1962. In the National Indonesian Navy Force (TNI-AL), the Sub Marine of this kind has the main duty to destroy the enemy's sea line (anti shipping), to do the spying activity, and to do the silent raids. When this Sub Marine dedicated itself in the National Indonesian Navy Force, this Sub Marine had done many operations to defend the Indonesian independence and even in the "Trikora" operation to gain Irian Jaya (at that time Irian Barat) back to its mother land. At that time, this Sub Marine was in the front line. Fourteen mediocre officers from TNI-AL had ever lead this Sub Marine as the commander. The last commander on this Sub Marine was the Navy Lieutenant Colonel (P) Imam Saki. This Sub Marine ended its dedication as the Indonesian War Ship (KRI) in 1994.
